Visit the Louvre Museum: Tips and Tricks of the Relais Saint-Honoré
The Louvre has 9 million visitors each year and is the most visited museum in the world. With 60,000 m² of exhibition and its 35,000 works, the Louvre is a true hub of culture where it's best to come prepared. It is in this perspective that we thought it useful to deliver our advice and tips.
The tips and tricks of the Relais Saint-Honoré
Are there special rates?
Yes! Admission is free for all visitors on the first Sunday of October to March.
Moreover, admission is free for visitors under 18 and visitors from 18 to 25 residents in the European Economic Area. (Do not forget to bring proof)
On which day and what time slot should I choose?
Avoid peak hours, between 11am and 4pm, especially during school holidays. To enhance your visit comfort and avoid delays, it will be better to come:
- From 9:00 am, especially on weekends and even on the first Sunday of the month
- After 4:30 p.m.
- At night, until 10pm on Wednesday and Friday
Which entrance ?
Avoid entering the Pyramid because long queues are common. This is also the meeting point for groups. It is preferable to use access by the Centre Commercial du Carousel at 99 rue de Rivoli.
What is there to see ?
- Sculptures
- Objets d’Arts
- Peintures
- Arts Graphiques
Even in a week, it would be impossible to see everything: at a rate of 30 seconds per work, it takes 36 days, 8 hours a day, to see all the exhibits. You must therefore set priorities.
Consult the temporary exhibitions, events, and shows program:

What are the prices and where to buy tickets?
The ticket price is € 15 (excluding free admission, see above).
To avoid delays, do not buy your tickets at the ticket office of the museum. 2 other options available to you:
- Buy your ticket online : https://www.ticketlouvre.fr/louvre/b2c/index.cfm/home
- Ask the Relais Saint-Honoré to do it for you
A few words about the history of the Louvre
The Louvre was originally a fortress, built from 1190 to 1202 by King Philip Augustus of France. The foundations of this medieval castle are still visible from the museum free access. An interesting model is presented.
The first museum project was prepared under Louis XIV but it was during the French Revolution that part of the Louvre became a national museum.
It is François Mitterrand who gave a major boost to the museum: The Ministry of Finance, which occupies an important wing of the palace, moved. The "Grand Louvre" project opened and lead to an expansion and a significant renovation of the museum. The famous glass pyramid, inaugurated in 1988, was born from this project.
