The mythical concept store Colette: The end of a beautiful story


This family story began 20 years ago. Colette Rousseaux, owner of a wholesale fashion boutique, felt that it was the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. With her daughter Sarah, who had just graduated from the Ecole du Louvre, Colette created the Concept store that thrilled not only Paris, but the world as well.
Their idea was simple and can be described in a short sentence: "the choice of what we love". But for a sentence like that to be said and captivate the public, it takes talent and taste.
The brand with two blue patches was created on March 20, 1997 on 213 Rue Saint-Honoré, 50 meters from the Relais Saint-Honoré, in one of the most fashionable streets of Paris. Karl Lagerfeld says: "I love this place and Madame Colette, who I admire greatly. I am devastated, it is so sad"

Both mother and daughter have managed to create what many of the biggest stores can no longer do: subtly combine fashion, beauty, street-art, design, high tech, music, and literature. They create events in partnership with creators or brands, they create a place that is not only about products but also about life, sharing with a group which we want to belong to.
The Water bar
Here, the product is rare, the series are short, and the collection permanently renewed. Merchandising is updated weekly. We launch brands, creators, artists, we revive forgotten products, we revisit styles: It is the eye of the cyclone of the fashion planet.
What is small is beautiful and what is rare is expensive. There is only one Colette store and here, it is not a big, endless space, where visits seem like endless journeys. The 700 square meters, spaced out on three floors, were designed by the architect Arnaud de Montigny.

Colette would not be Colette without its team. Luxury is also a service: a hundred employees for 700 square meters of sales area. How many stores can say the same?
So we'll have to see Colette before the curtain closes on December 20, 2017. We will remember two great priestesses of fashion and design, who, in spite, of their success have not yielded to the marketing temptations that end up destroying the brand: Multiple stores, extending opening hours, squeezing products together, and selling to a successor that distorts the concept.
